Make perfectly crispy chicken wings in your air fryer for your next party or game day. This recipe offers guidance on time, temperature, and seasoning, with tips for making them frozen or scaling for a crowd.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs chicken wings, separated into drumettes and flats
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Your favorite wing sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Pat the chicken wings completely dry with paper towels. This is crucial for crispy skin.
  3. In a medium bowl, toss the wings with olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using) until evenly coated.
  4. Arrange the wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd the basket; cook in batches if necessary.
  5. Air fry for 20-25 minutes, flipping the wings halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
  6. If you want to add sauce, toss the cooked wings in your favorite wing sauce immediately after removing them from the air fryer.
  7. Serve hot and enjoy your crispy air fryer chicken wings.

Notes

  • For extra crispy wings, you can add a teaspoon of baking powder to the dry rub. This helps to dry out the skin.
  • If cooking from frozen, increase the cooking time by 5-10 minutes and ensure they are cooked through.
  • To scale for a crowd, you will need to cook in multiple batches. Keep cooked wings warm in a low oven (around 200°F/95°C) while you cook the remaining batches.
  • Consider serving with celery sticks and blue cheese or ranch dressing.
