Make this easy, gooey, and savory cheesy garlic pull apart bread. It is perfect as a party appetizer or a warm side dish for dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf (16 ounces) pre-made French or Italian bread
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until you have a smooth garlic butter spread.
  3. Take the loaf of bread and slice it crosswise into 1-inch thick slices, cutting almost all the way through but leaving the bottom crust intact so the slices hold together.
  4. Carefully spread the garlic butter mixture evenly between each slice of bread, ensuring the butter gets down into the cuts.
  5. In a separate bowl, toss the mozzarella and cheddar cheeses together.
  6. Gently pull the slices apart slightly and stuff the shredded cheese mixture in between the layers throughout the loaf.
  7. Wrap the entire loaf tightly in aluminum foil.
  8. Bake the wrapped bread for 20 minutes.
  9. Carefully unwrap the foil, exposing the top of the bread. Return the bread to the oven and bake uncovered for another 5 to 10 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly and the edges are lightly golden.
  10. Let the warm cheesy bread cool for 5 minutes before serving. Pull the pieces apart to share.

Notes

  • For a bakery style cheese bread loaf, use a homemade dough recipe and shape it into a round or oval loaf before scoring and filling.
  • If you prefer a stronger garlic flavor, add 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder to the butter mixture.
  • You can substitute the cheese blend with Gruyère or Monterey Jack for a different melt quality.
