Ingredients
Scale
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup M&M’s holiday baking candies
1/2 cup powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal.
In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together until the mixture is light and fluffy.
Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
Fold in the chocolate chips and M&M’s gently with a spatula.
Press the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan.
Bake for 22 to 25 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown and the center is set but still soft.
Let the bars cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
Once cool, lift the bars out using the parchment overhang. Dust lightly with powdered sugar, if desired, before cutting into squares.
Notes
For extra chewy bars, slightly underbake them by about 2 minutes. The residual heat will finish the cooking process as they cool.
Use only room temperature eggs for better batter incorporation.
Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days.
