Make juicy, flavorful BBQ chicken thighs in the oven. This simple recipe delivers tender meat and a sticky, sweet glaze perfect for a weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup your favorite BBQ sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (optional, for extra stickiness)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with foil for easier cleanup.
  2. Pat the chicken thighs dry with paper towels. This helps the skin crisp.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  4. Rub the spice mixture evenly over all surfaces of the chicken thighs.
  5. Place the seasoned thighs skin-side up on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 25 minutes.
  7. While the chicken bakes, mix the BBQ sauce and brown sugar (if using) in a small saucepan over low heat until the sugar dissolves. Do not boil.
  8. After 25 minutes, remove the chicken from the oven. Brush half of the BBQ sauce mixture over the thighs.
  9. Return the chicken to the oven and bake for another 10 minutes.
  10. Brush the remaining sauce over the chicken. Broil on high for 2-4 minutes, watching closely, until the glaze is caramelized and sticky.
  11. Remove from the oven and let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For extra crispy skin, place a wire rack on top of the foil-lined baking sheet before placing the chicken on it.
  • If you prefer a less sweet glaze, skip the added brown sugar.
  • This recipe works well for quick bbq chicken dinner preparation.
