Make this simple, flavorful garlic butter rice side dish quickly. It uses fresh garlic and butter for rich taste and cooks up fluffy in under 20 minutes, perfect for weeknight meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup long grain white rice
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 1 3/4 cups chicken broth or vegetable broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  3. Add the minced garlic to the melted butter and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant. Do not let the garlic brown.
  4. Add the rinsed rice to the saucepan and stir constantly for 1 minute to coat the grains in the butter mixture.
  5. Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  6. Once boiling, immediately reduce the heat to the lowest setting, cover the saucepan tightly with a lid, and simmer for 15 minutes without lifting the lid.
  7. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it stand, covered, for 5 minutes.
  8. Remove the lid and fluff the rice gently with a fork before serving.

Notes

  • Using broth instead of water adds significant depth to the flavor profile.
  • For extra richness, substitute 1 tablespoon of the butter with olive oil when sautéing the garlic.
  • This rice pairs well with grilled chicken, baked fish, or roasted vegetables.
