Make bold, flavorful Cajun shrimp quickly using a simple garlic butter sauce. This recipe is perfect for a fast weeknight dinner served over rice or pasta.
Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels. In a medium bowl, toss the shrimp with the Cajun seasoning until evenly coated.
Place a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the butter and let it melt until foaming.
Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using) to the skillet. Cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Do not let the garlic burn.
Add the seasoned shrimp to the skillet in a single layer. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes per side, until the shrimp are pink and opaque. Avoid overcrowding the pan; cook in batches if necessary.
Remove the skillet from the heat. Stir in the lemon juice. Taste and add salt and pepper if needed.
Serve the Cajun shrimp immediately over your choice of cooked rice or pasta. Drizzle any remaining pan sauce over the top and garnish with fresh parsley.
Notes
For a creamy pasta dish, reserve 1/2 cup of the pasta cooking water and stir it into the pan sauce before adding the shrimp back in.
You can use this seasoning mix for blackened shrimp by cooking the shrimp in a very hot cast-iron skillet until a dark crust forms.
If you do not have pre-made Cajun seasoning, mix paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, and dried thyme.
