Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (14.2 ounces) refrigerated pizza dough
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, finely diced
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough: Unroll the pizza dough onto a lightly floured surface. Gently stretch it into a rough 10×14 inch rectangle.
  2. Make the filling: In a small bowl, combine the 1/2 cup granulated sugar and cinnamon. Brush the melted butter evenly over the dough surface. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the buttered dough.
  3. Create the cheesecake layer: In a separate bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, 1/4 cup sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Spread this mixture evenly over the cinnamon-sugar layer, leaving a small border on one long edge.
  4. Add strawberries and roll: Sprinkle the diced strawberries over the cream cheese layer. Starting from the long edge opposite the border, tightly roll the dough into a log. Pinch the seam closed.
  5. Cut and proof: Cut the log into 12 equal rolls. Place the rolls cut-side up in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish. Cover the dish loosely with plastic wrap and let the rolls rise in a warm spot for 30 to 45 minutes, or until they look puffy.
  6. Bake the rolls: Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius). Remove the plastic wrap and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
  7. Make the glaze: While the rolls cool slightly, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and lemon juice until you have a smooth, pourable glaze.
  8. Glaze and serve: Drizzle the cream cheese glaze over the warm rolls. Serve these indulgent strawberry breakfast treats immediately.

Notes

  • For softer rolls, cover the dish tightly with foil for the last 10 minutes of baking.
  • If you prefer a stronger cheesecake flavor, add one extra ounce of cream cheese to the filling mixture.
  • You can use frozen, thawed strawberries, but pat them very dry before adding them to the filling.
